All of us experience stress in our lives. Sometimes, that stress can become so overwhelming that it makes us unable to function.
It’s the sleepless nights we lay awake with worry. It’s the sweaty palms and racing heartbeat. It’s the constant sense of dread or panic. It’s the inability to do the things we want to do because we can almost tangibly feel the walls closing in.
Some common symptoms of anxiety include:
- Constant worry
- Avoiding places and situations
- Feeling restless and fidgety
- Feeling angry for no reason
If you can relate with this, you’re not alone. Anxiety is the most common diagnosis, with over 40 million adults experiencing anxiety every year.
The good news? Anxiety is highly treatable, so you don’t have to suffer needlessly.
Anxiety happens when something unnecessarily triggers the body’s fight or flight response. This response is helpful if you’re walking in the jungle and a tiger leaps out at you. It’s not so helpful if you have to give a speech.
At Tempest, we start by teaching clients how to manage their symptoms by learning to interrupt this response and reset their brain through a combination of physical and mental relaxation exercises.
Once clients are able to manage their symptoms, we focus on addressing the underlying cause: the body’s interpretation of certain natural life interactions as threatening. By challenging and overcoming these underlying beliefs, clients can regain their ability to function at the height of their potential.
