Thomas is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) ready to help you reclaim your life.
After 15 years working in pastoral ministry, I left to pursue a second masters degree, this time in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. From this moment forward, I envisioned a place where I could help others through their own religious deconstruction, as well as aiding those recovering from trauma, depression, and anxiety. This led to the formation of Tempest Counseling, a therapeutic practice rooted in science-based treatments for mental health.
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor with the Florida Board for Mental Health Counseling
- National Certified Counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors
- Certified Clinical Trauma Professional with the International Association of Trauma Professionals
- Level II Gottman-Trained Therapist with the Gottman Institute
- Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary
- Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Psychology (Magna Cum Laude) from Troy University
- Numerous specialized trainings in trauma-focused modalities
I have been trained to provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and the Gottman approach to relationship counseling. Currently, these are the leading evidence-based treatments in the field.
In addition, I have been trained in numerous trauma methodologies including Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Grief.
Over the past decade, I have worked with adolescents, children, adults, military veterans, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and adult survivors of childhood abuse. There are few things that I am more passionate about than seeing recovery in my clients.
What Others Are Saying
As a therapist, I have earned the commendation of some of the most recognized mental health leaders throughout Florida, such as the former president of the American Mental Health Counseling Association, Dr. Stephen Giunta:
“As a member of leadership at the local, state, and national level, I have had opportunities to associate with clinicians of extraordinary talent. Thomas is one of those clinicians. He understands the complications surrounding mental health and possesses the skills necessary to intervene on his client’s behalf.”
